It pains to say this, but I was so disappointed when the Motion Variable Filter arrived. The build and quality are top-notch. The problem is it does not cover all three lenses on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which, for me, defeats the purpose. Even when adjusted over the Ultra Wide lens, there is still vignetting due to the inadequate diameter of the filter. It's like buying a sports car with a V-12 engine and only using eight cylinders.
The Motion Filter will work with all three cameras and we have sent you the alignment guideline to make it work. The Lidar sensor and flash is covered, but we wouldn't recommend using our filters at night, as the purpose of the filters is to manage light.
Having recently taken up iphone videography, I quickly realised that quality footage depends on being able to control the shutter speed. This filter allow that with ease on the Wide, Zoom and even, in situations where a slight vignette is not noticeable or off-putting, on Ultra Wide. I’m really pleased with it and have just purchased the compatible anamorphic lens to further explore what’s possible in a pocket-sized setup. Check out my recent video for a flavour of what this can do (the older clips in the piece, while good and more than serviceable — equipment will always be second to content — are nowhere near as attractive and smooth as those with the ND on. https://youtu.be/VMu5FuztdOc
As expected, the filter made with high care
I was in the market for a ND filter for my iPhone XS, and wanted a more cinematic look to my video. I wanted to be able to control my ISO and my shutter speed and not have the quality blow out. I had been on the site many times and was about to pick up the hybrid ND/ PL Filter, but then the day I was going to purchase, they had announced this filter, which is perfect for what I want to do. I shoot production videos and now use Filmic Pro and have a Osmo mobile 2. When making my choice weight was something I had a concern with. So I choose to go with the clip over camera. And happy I did. The quality on this lens is A+++ It’s Heavy and extremely well built. It’s extremely easy to move from the 4 stops of ND and easy to read when looking to see what stop your on. I even got some great lens flares in my shoot. I highly recommend this lens if your looking to move to a next level of products. I tested it on cars driving by and got a nice motion blur, which is what I wanted. This was my first buy, but won’t be the last!!!
only the best Sandmarc puts out.
